Why Do Pastors Lie?

Because they are people just like us. People lie. That’s the short answer.

The longer, more complicated answer is that, like many other professions, Pastors have been taught what they know by other people. People with their own ideas and their own agendas.

Nice people, caring people, probably good dads, good kids, hard workers, committed to their cause and their church, but when those Pastors repeat and teach anything apart from the Bible they have become liars.

Sounds harsh, right? It is. Even while the Bible was being written Paul was warning that it was being corrupted. Not by a few, but by many.

2 Corinthians 2:17

For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

2 Corinthians 4:2

But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

Those pastors are representing God and are suppose to be teaching His Word, not their own, not what they think or believe, but what God’s Word says. Period.

You can see where sometimes things are a matter of differing interpretations, but you must have a standard and be on high alert when you are being taught something by someone who claims to be an authority. Have your bible open and compare what they say with what God’s Word says.

This is a series I am writing walking through some of the most common lies Pastors tell and how we can avoid the unsound doctrine. Get your Bibles out because you don’t want to take my word on it’s own either.
